Service Projects of the

Normal Rotary Club of Normal, Illinois

Chair: Director Hank Campbell

Coats for Kids Connie Gentry, Chair; This project provides coats and other warm clothing for children in Unit 5 School District who are in need.  Last year we provided more than 400 coats.

Oakdale Elementary: We support this school in two ways: Our financial contribution allowed them to purchase a computer program to provide reading, math and science assistance for children.  And, many Rotarians visit the school and work with students in long and short term tutoring activities.

Poinsettia Fund Raiser: For more than 20 years the members of the Normal Rotary Club have brought cheer to the community by selling Poinsettias in late fall.  Last year more than 3,200 plants were sold and delivered.  The funds support our service and youth projects.

Mini Grants: The Club invites requests for funds, evaluates the requests and makes awards.  Last year financial assistance was given to the following organizations:

  • Children's Health Care Council of McLean County
  • Home Sweet Home Ministries
  • Children's Home and Children's Foundation
  • GED Adult Literacy
  • Neville House
  • Heartland Head Start
  • Salvation Army
  • West Bloomington Revitalization Project
  • Community Health
  • Baby Fold

Literacy Chair: Meghan Listek:.  Funds are directed to support literacy efforts in our community and to work closely with the State Literacy Program.  (Note: our literacy funds are supplemented with awards from Cardinal Care based on tickets sold to the special Rotary Day Game of the St. Louis Cardinals.  Enjoy a Cardinal/Cub baseball game and help kids.)

Adopt A Highway, Bill Semlak, Chair: Members: The Club cleans 2 miles of the Yuton Highway four times a year.

Rotaract Clubs: Our Club supports and provides guidance for the Rotaract Club at Heartland Community College and the Rotaract Club at Illinois State University.  Pamela Sweetwood is advisor of the Heartland Club and Ann Haugo the advisor of the ISU Club.

Paint the Town: Our club looks for opportunities to provide interior painting, yard work or related projects for a person or persons who need special assistance.

Timberpointe Project:  the 4 Bloomington-Normal Rotary clubs worked for more than two years to raise more than $2 million to help fund a secure dining and health facility at Camp Timberpointe on Lake Bloomington .  The Timber Pointe Outdoor Center provides services for persons with disabilities throughout Illinois .  A Rotary plaque recognizes our contribution.  No funds were allocated from the Club this year.
