Public Relations Activities of the

Normal Rotary Club of Normal , Illinois

Club Public Relations (where the Club meets the Public) Chair: Director John Bishop

Spoke Committee – Paul Brauchle chairs the committee of writers and photographers who do a great amount of work.  In addition, the officers provide information about upcoming events so the Spoke is the way we distribute announcements. (Every week a team of persons record what goes on in our meetings and puts together the Spoke.  This newsletter is posted to the web and most members get an email with a link to the most current posting.  A printed version is sent to those who want a paper copy.)

Club Web Pages – These pages are maintained by Jim Carter, Ed Tanton, Ralph Dude, and Becky Goeckner. (These pages are designed around our weekly Spoke, with links to many related pages.)

Publicity Committee – Chair: Director John Bishop, Members: Linda Healy. The purpose of this Committee is to let the rest of the world know what we have planned and what good things we have done.

Documents, Brochures and Important Papers Committee – (RI produces many informative brochures and documents, as does our Club.  The purpose of this committee is to systematically survey what is available, collect what will have utility and to make available what is needed when it is needed.  Because the Club meets at Illinois State University, much of our material has been put in ISU Archives.)

International Fair – Chair: Radha Radhakrishnan (Every year the Club participates in the ISU International Fair in mid-February.  We are there to talk with young persons, students and parents about opportunities to become a member of Rotary, to study abroad and to host foreign guests.  We try to have a good collection of handouts to inform the public.)

Student of the Month – Chair: Art Runyon.  (During the school we have four or five Senior High School student guests each month.  Members host a student for each meeting and introduce the student to the rest of the Club.)

Student Recognition Luncheon – Vandana Naik, Chair.  Members: Todd Anderson, Becky Goeckner, Ray Ropp, and Ron Timmerman, (In conjunction with the Bloomington Rotary Club we have a formal luncheon every spring in which we honor high school seniors who have demonstrated the Rotary motto of Service Above Self.)

Public Safety Award and Coach Jim Collie Vocational Service Award – Chair: Jack Wilz. Members: John Bishop, Jim Fagin, and Pamela Sweetwood. (In the Rotary tradition the Club awards two persons in the community for 1) their outstanding performance in public safety and 2) their vocation.)

Golf Outing – Chair: Rob Glover with Ben Gildersleeve, Todd Bradley, Gene Gudeman, Gordon Ropp,  Mel Shultz, Lyle Raper, and Dave Wiant.  (In the early fall the Club hosts a golf outing at Hazy Hills.  Rotarians from throughout District 6490 are invited and members invite friend.  Teams are put together to have a good time and build fellowship. In the evening everyone gathers for a great meal in an outdoor setting.  This event serves as a small fund raiser to the Club.)

Rural/Urban Night – Co-chairs: Ray and Gordon Ropp (On a summer evening we gather with our families at the Ropp Farm to learn a little about our rural neighbors.  Members are encouraged to invite friends to this event.)

Poinsettia Fundraiser – Co-Chairs: Steve Goodwin and Jim Carter, with Don Rutledge and all members.  (Organize, coordinate and promote the large fundraiser that is central to many activities of this Club.  And, by selling such beautiful poinsettias, we bring joy to the hearts of many.)

Christmas Village Display at the Children’s Discovery Museum - Chair: John Morris with help from many.  (We set up and take down a delightful holiday display at the Museum.)
